For many years, Howard was a partner at the Manhattan law firm Turkel Forman LLP alongside Judith E. Turkel (who is also of counsel to Jorges & Bowers, LLP). There, he and Judith hired Nicholas E. Bowers and Paul Carlotto as their associates. They closed their mid-town office in 2020 and became Of Counsel to Nick’s then firm. Howard and Judith have worked together since the early 1990’s. They built a law firm, mentored young attorneys and served clients for many years. They are proud of the relationships they maintained with many of their clients over a period of nearly four decades, while working hard to change laws, hearts and minds as advocates for their many LGBTQ clients.
When Judith and Howard closed their mid-town office in 2020 and became Of Counsel to Nick’s firm, opened the door for a seamless continuation of their firm, even with their change in role and less active involvement in the day to day matters of the firm.
Over his long career Howard has represented a wide variety of cases and clients from individuals to major corporations. He represented a client in one of the first same sex relationship dissolution cases litigated in New York County. He has helped many clients dissolve non-marital relationships and protect their real and personal property rights. More recently Howard concentrated in handling all types of residential and commercial real estate transactions, including the purchase and sale of residential and commercial properties (including related residential and commercial financing) and drafting and negotiation of sophisticated commercial leases and subleases.
Howard has also advised clients regarding the formation and operation of their businesses and establishing the appropriate entity, such as a limited liability company (LLC), corporation or partnership.
Howard’s estate planning practice has included drafting wills and trusts, advising representatives and beneficiaries with respect to probate and estate administration and, where necessary, litigating clients’ inheritance rights in the New York City’s Surrogate’s Court.
Howard is currently an Arbitrator for FINRA Dispute Resolution Services a not-for–profit organization. FINRA was established to protect America’s investors by making sure the broker-dealer industry operates fairly and honestly.
